In 2015, Girl Geek Academy co-founder Lisy Kane curated the first ever Australian all-female game-making day, #SheMakesGames. Our flagship event was held at ACMI-X in October 2016 as part of Melbourne International Games Week. The keynote speaker for the day was Brie Code who spoke about what video games can be and provided an incredible insight to her experiences as a game developer and advocate.
From here we heard from talented women in the local game development industry about their journeys into the games industry and what the game development cycle looks like. There was also a unique opportunity to have hand-on workshops with experts from Unreal, Mountains, Lumi Consulting, Zero Latency and EA Firemonkeys.

Sally-anne Kellaway is the Senior Audio Designer for Zero Latency, a Melbourne-based VR developer that creates content for its internationally represented Large Scale Free Roam VR System. She also works closely with the Industry-standard Audio Middleware solution FMOD, she is the sound supervisor for the upcoming VR documentary Uku360, as well as the co-chair of the IGDA Special Interest Group for VR, AR and MR technologies, and a regular contributing editor for designingsound.org. Sally is an internationally respected speaker on the topics of game audio and VR audio, having presented content at major conferences worldwide. Heavily involved in advocacy and community efforts locally, she runs a Women in VR group for Australia, as well as co-running the VR Audio and the Game Audio meetups for Australia.
Sally started her career with SEGA Studios Australia, working across the Motion Capture, Animation and Audio departments and developing a strong appreciation for cross-discipline co-operation and a taste for using adaptive game audio to augment true-to-life scenes. Following the completion of her employment with SEGA, she went on to complete a Masters in Design Science with a specialisation in Audio and Acoustics and develop her knowledge for spatial audio in direct application to HRTF technology for VR and AR.
