Community Activator at Canvas Coworking Inc
Joy is passionate about creating opportunities that encourage people to stay in regional areas and to seek opportunity to learn and grow without moving to the ‘big cities’. In addition to a career with NAB spanning over 22 years, Joy is the Co-Founder and Community Manager of Canvas Coworking Space in Toowoomba, Qld, where she has created and facilitates programmes, designed to build the capability, capacity and confidence of entrepreneurs.
Joy is the mother of two teenage children and loves to travel with them to experience wide and varied environments, cultures and opportunities around the world. To encourage other Mothers to build, learn and grow their own businesses, Joy developed the AIM – Accelerating Innovative Mumpreneurs programme which incorporates a holistic approach to managing business growth with family requirements and personal development, which she facilitates in collaboration with mentors from the local community.
As a parent, Joy is extremely passionate about educating youth in respect to the opportunity that entrepreneurship and digital knowledge can provide. This has led Joy to develop Founderfest which provides a platform for young adults to experience entrepreneurship in a guided and supported way, whilst encouraging collaboration with peers and mentors to recognise internal strengths and the need to share the load with others that have differing skill sets.
Joy is also the local Champion for CoderDojo, creating the local chapter of this international organisation that teaches children how to become creators of technology, rather than simply consumers. These activities have resulted in Joy being recognised as an Advance Queensland Community Digital Champion in 2016.
Joy is excited by the opportunity to learn a lot more about the needs of the people, businesses and communities of Regional Queensland as part of a collaboration with the University of Southern Queensland and Austrade to create and deliver the WiRE program in 2017-18…connecting women in a way that will encourage collaboration, innovation and disruption to the status quo.
